摘要

Verburg et al. (2006) commented on our recent paper (Sarvala et al. 2006) in which we concluded that there is insufficient evidence for a climate-driven decrease in productivity in Lake Tanganyika, particularly that observed changes in fish catches mainly reflect changes in fishery practices and total effort, not climate. Their comment focuses on (1) phytoplankton biomass differences, (2) increase of dissolved silica, (3) transparency changes, (4) inadequacy of wind data, (5) paleolimnological ~(13)C data, and (6) changes in fish catches.
