From the Ark to the Pulpit. An edition and translation of the ' transitional ' Northumberland bestiary (13th century)

Medievalists suffer from a lack of modern editions of medieval manuscripts. Cynthia White (University of Arizona, Dept. of Classics) has contributed to bridging this gap with her Latin edition and annotated English translation of the Northumberland Bestiary dated to 1250-60. The manuscript written on parchment is decorated by 112 illuminations. It was in the possession of the Dukes of Northumberland from the 18th century and stored at Alnwick Castle (sign. Alnwick Ms. 447). It was sold at Sotheby's to an anonymous American private collector in 1990 and purchased by John Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles in 2007 (now Ms. 100).
