Given the recent background of events in Sabah, the Malaysian Defence Minister, Dato' Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamid is making every effort to ensure that the Malaysian armed forces are well equipped to protect its sovereignty. When asked what are the challenges that he faces in an interview on board KD Kelantan, he had just one word - budget. With a budget of around RM 7 billion (2.25 billion US$) for the 10th Malaysian Plan, the defence minister is focusing on acquiring equipment and infrastructure, building capabilities and also training to use existing sophisticated equipment.
