摘要

Professor Margaret MacMillan is presently the Warden of St Anthony's College, Oxford, and Professor of Women's History at Oxford University. Her highly acclaimed work Peacemakers: The Paris Conference of 1919 and its Attempt to End the War (2002) very deservedly won her the coveted Samuel Johnson prize in 2002. Her several other important volumes include Women of the Raj and Nixon and Mao. Her mother Eluned MacMillan is, incidentally, grand-daughter to David Lloyd George. She is not only a leading historian, but also an international relations scholar. She writes beautifully clear English, making a massive 700-page book relatively easy to read and to absorb its arguments. She is authoritative, fair and objective throughout her complex story with its numerous, often complicated, twists and turns.
