Edward Ⅲ and the war at sea: the English navy, 1327-1377

Edward Ⅲ has come to be regarded as the one of the most successful monarchs of the Late Middle Ages. After the disastrous reign of his father, the young king restored the authority of the Crown and transformed his kingdom into one of the foremost military powers of Europe. Dr Graham Cushway's monograph deals with a relatively neglected aspect of his important reign - the development of the Royal Navy. Describing naval warfare during the Hundred Years War, the monograph charts the attempts of Edward Ⅲ's government to make effective use of naval power to maintain the security of the English coastline and to achieve dominance over their French and Spanish opponents.
