Although there are a number of exchange platforms in the market, the two 'heavyweights' operating in close competition are both relatively new players ― inreon and RI3K. Inreon, launched in December 2000, is backed by top notch committed reinsurance capacity, capital and management expertise; its ownership is 25 per cent Munich Re, 25 per cent Swiss Re, 25 per cent Internet Capital Group, Accenture five per cent and the remaining 20 per cent held by management and other parties. Inreon is also currently looking at an equity owner from one of three large insurers. To enhance its offering last June inreon bought the US-based Risk Transfer Exchange (T-Rex) which was launched in July 2000 as an independent internet-based reinsurance exchange focused on property casualty business in the North American market.
