Armed with a stronger banking system, a slew of solid macroeconomic reforms, and the support of international financial institutions, Turkey is ready to begir talks in October on its possible entry into the European Union. This Muslim nation strategically wedged between East and West remains undeterred by European voters' recent rejection of a European constitution and the public's underlying mood against an expanding Europe. And while acknowledging that Turkey's road to possible EU membership may now be rockier and longer, analysts don't expect that the economic and political reform process started with the carrot of EU membership as a catalyst will grind to a halt.
