Last Spring Muham-madu Buhari won the presidency of Nigeria by promising to snuff out corruption and revive Africa's largest economy. Today the $568.5 billion economy is reeling from the oil price crash, and no one can accuse the country of being graft-free. Former army major general Buhari, 73, recently sacked the heads of 26 federal agencies and government-owned companies, many of whom had been part of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan's old guard. Although several former senior officials face corruption charges, many observers remain unconvinced of any progress. Last year Transparency International ranked Nigeria 136th of 175 countries for its perceived level of corruption.
