Defense Innovation Board recommends five 'principles' for DOD's use of Al

The Defense Innovation Board is recommending the Pentagon commit to developing and using artificial intelligence systems in a responsible, equitable, traceable, reliable and governable manner. The board voted to approve the "AI principles" recommendations during a public meeting in Washington today. They will now be considered by Defense Department leadership for adoption. "These principles are designed neither to gloss over contentious issues nor restrict the Department's capabilities," the DIB AI Principles document states. "Rather, we intend that these principles should enable AI systems and operations that are aligned with DOD's mission to deter war and protect our nation."
