Defying Defense Secretary Robert Gates' repeated veto threats, the House Armed Services Committee this week pressed ahead with plans to fund an alternate engine for the Joint Strike Fighter program - charting a course for the Obama administration and Congress to clash over defense funding.rnIn addition, the House Armed Services air and land forces subcommittee, in its May 13 mark of the fiscal year 2011 defense authorization bill, unveiled what one congressional official called "big medicine" for the entire Joint Strike Fighter program, including sharp limits on funding until the Pentagon and prime contractor Lockheed Martin demonstrate key testing and manufacturing milestones.
