Pentagon and Air Force leaders will focus this year on fleshing out a new strategy tor a tamily of capabilities that could affect many aspects of the Air Force's traditional weapons portfolio, according to Defense Department acquisition chief Ashton Carter.rnThe move follows a new way of thinking about what Carter believes are distinct but related capabilities. In a Jan. 20 speech he mentioned long-range strike; persistent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; electronic attack; and "conventional, long-range prompt global strike" as a set of capabilities for which civilian leaders and Air Force brass will need to find a "way ahead" over the next year.
