The Army has developed a list of its top seven challenges to help guide industry on where it should focus its independent research and development efforts, a senior Army official said. Heidi Shyu, acting assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology, said this is the first time the Army is trying to engage industry in this manner. "We are taking the top seven challenge areas and [showing] them to industry," Shyu said during a National Defense Industrial Association event Monday. "We don't have a good solution right now, and we're looking for ideas from industry — for you to invest your IRAD [independent research and development] in to help solve these challenges for us."
