As the White House and Congress consider major cuts to security spending, the Pentagon's No. 2 acquisition official remains optimistic about the impact of those cuts on the department's budget and the defense industrial base. Frank Kendall, principal deputy under secretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, said Monday at the National Press Club that he does not believe Democrats and Republicans who care about national security will let the Defense Department's budget "drop precipitously." He also predicted the industrial base will change "slightly" but remain "healthy."
