Congress Approves Host Of DOD Energy-Related Measures In Defense Bill

Late last month Congress approved fiscal year 2011 defense authorization legislation that includes several measures aimed at making the Defense Department more energy efficient, better addressing renewable energy conflicts and enhancing energy security - including an authorization for $120 million to go toward energy conservation and renewable energy projects.rnThe House approved a revised version - stripped of its controversial measures on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" - Dec. 17, and the Senate passed a slightly amended version Dec. 22. President Obama has yet to sign the bill.rnThe bill includes several measures addressing both operational and installation energy use, with Congress encouraging DOD "to be more energy efficient, increase use of renewable energy, and enhance energy security," the House Armed Services Committee notes in a summary of the bill.
