Australia should spend more on its military, upgrade air bases and associated fuel infrastructure in the country's north to better assist Washington in a war with China, and buy American weapons to ensure superior but affordable capabilities, according to a new report by the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments. Titled "Gateway to the Indo-Pacific - Australian Defense Strategy and the Future of the Australia-U.S. Alliance," the report takes Canberra to task for spending too little on defense, arguing that the defense-budget mismatch with Washington could lead to "discord" within the alliance.
