Business Board: DOD Should Establish Downsizing Team To Cut Costs

To deal with tough economic times, the Pentagon should establish a new semi-independent team to develop a detailed downsizing plan for how to aggressively cut costs, according to a Defense Business Board task force. During its quarterly meeting last week, the board unanimously approved the task force's recommendations on the best ways to apply successful business practices to the Defense Department. Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter launched the review in December 2012, calling on the board to determine which key procedures, practices and metrics are used by industry to oversee major projects -- and determine how to apply those to DOD.
