Budget Woes Force Air Force To Cancel Red Flag Training Exercise

The Air Force has canceled a Red Flag-Alaska exercise that was expected to take place this month and is debating whether to cancel some of its other premier training exercises to cope with the fiscal constraints of an across-the-board congressional budget cut that was instituted in early March. The service announced in a March 27 Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) press statement that it had decided to cancel Red Flag-Alaska 13-2, which was scheduled for April. Red Flag-Alaska is a two-week exercise held at Eielson Air Force Base, AK. Additionally, service officials confirmed to Inside the Air Force last week that the service, in the wake of sequestration, is considering canceling some of its other Red Flag advanced combat exercises as well as other joint-training events.
