Army Leaders Say Aviation Restructure Is 'Sound'

Top Army leaders kicking off an annual aviation conference this week defended the service's controversial aviation restructure as the Army faces fiscal constraints and a reduction in size. "The restructure plan is sound and saves or avoids cost over $12 billion plus $1.1 billion annually in operations and sustainment," Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. John Campbell said during his keynote address at the Army Aviation Association of America's annual symposium. Campbell said the Army secretary, the chief of staff and the defense secretary have all "assessed this plan and they agree with the Army's analysis and, as we transition from an Army at war to an Army preparing for war, we must ensure we sustain momentum that we have worked so hard to gain."
