Marine Corps Finalizes New Aviation Plan, Provides Certainty For Future

The Marine Corps will soon release a new aviation plan that paints a more accurate picture of the way ahead, according to a service official. With more certainty about where the Marine Corps is headed after the release of the Strategic Choices Management Review, the Quadrennial Defense Review and a new 175,000-person force structure target, Marine officials will brief aviation leaders this week on the new plan, Brig. Gen. Matthew Glavy, deputy assistant commandant for aviation, said on April 28 at a Center for Strategic and International Studies event in Washington. Glavy said Brig. Gen. Steven Rudder, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing commander, and Lt. Gen. Terry Robling, Marine Corps Forces Pacific commander, will hear the briefing. The service's top aviation priority is the F-35B Joint Strike Fighter, and Glavy said he is "cautiously optimistic" the aircraft will achieve initial operational capability in July 2015.
