The Navy is creating new positions focused on unmanned systems aimed at streamlining the service's efforts, according to Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, who noted Wednesday that the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter would most likely be the last manned aircraft the service ever buys. "As good as it is, and as much as we need it and look forward to having it in the fleet for many years, the F-35 should be, and almost certainly will be, the last manned strike fighter aircraft the Department of Navy will ever buy or fly," he said April 15 in his prepared remarks for the Navy League's annual exposition in National Harbor, MD.
