SIGAR Questions U.S. Report Calling For ANSF Reduction

A recent report laying out a plan to reduce the end strength of the Afghan National Security Forces has the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction worried about the United States' ability to anticipate costs supporting those forces, according to a Feb. 19 letter sent to the top two U.S. generals in Afghanistan. The letter, addressed to Gen. John Campbell, commander of U.S. Forces-Afghanistan and Gen. Todd Semonite, commanding general of Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan, and written by John Sopko, states that the current authorized end-strength of the ANSF is 352,000.
