DOD intends to sign R&D cooperation agreement with Chile

The Pentagon intends to sign an agreement with Chile that will help enhance cooperation between the two nations in the research and development realm, Director for International Cooperation Keith Webster told lawmakers in a recent letter. According to the Aug. 22 letter reviewed by Inside the Pentagon, the Pentagon intends to sign this new agreement with Chile "for research, development, test and evaluation of defense-related projects." This framework agreement "will offer opportunities to engage in joint RDT&E projects of interest to both parties" with an aim to help share costs, risks and technical information, the letter states. The agreement will enable the defense departments of both countries to exchange funds and contract on one another's behalf. In addition, the agreement will allow the two nations to "provide equipment to each other, and dispose of jointly acquired equipment in order to carry out cooperative projects under project agreements (PAs) concluded under the RDT&E agreement," the letter states.
