DOD submits report on countering UAVs in restricted airspace

The Defense Department has delivered to Congress a classified report on existing U.S. military capabilities and shortfalls to counter remotely piloted aircraft operating in restricted and "special-use" airspace, a report that follows last year's incursion by a recreational UAV operator of White House airspace and grounds. On June 6, Pentagon acquisition executive Frank Kendall sent lawmakers a report -- dated June 3,2016 -- required by the Fiscal Year 2016 National Defense Authorization Act on the status of U.S. military capabilities to detect, identify and disable remotely piloted vehicles, according to Army Mai.
