House amendment would designate senior directed energy official at DOD

An amendment to the proposed House fiscal year 2017 defense authorization bill would designate an existing senior official within the Defense Department as director of directed energy weapons. The amendment, introduced Wednesday by Reps. Doug Lamborn (R-CO) and Jim Langevin (D-RI), would designate the official with responsibility for the development and demonstration of directed energy weapons. Both lawmakers are members of the directed energy caucus.
