Harris: U.S. will not establish joint task force in the Western Pacific

The commander of all U.S. forces in the Pacific, echoing his predecessor, does not want to establish a joint task force for the Western Pacific. A recently released report from the Center For Strategic and International Studies focusing on the Asia-Pacific Rebalance in 2025 recommends that U.S. Pacific Command should establish a joint task force to centralize command and control responsibilities. However, PACOM chief Adm. Harry Harris said at a Jan. 27 CSIS event in Washington that there already is a joint task force in the Western Pacific and "it's called PACOM."
