U.S. Special Operations Command is seeking industry input for a soft-body armor technology that can withstand different projectiles as part of an effort to "accelerate the delivery of innovative capabilities" to the warfighter, according to a recent notice. In a broad agency announcement released Dec. 30, 2015, on Federal Business Opportunities, SOCOM states that this call is part of its "long-term goal to develop soft-body armor technologies to meet special operations forces (SOF) mission requirements." Prior studies have determined that special operations equipment needs to be improved in the following areas: "1) trade space between weight, protection and mobility; 2) cost; and 3) armor system component integration," according to the announcement.
