Congress seeks assessments on organization of combatant commands

Lawmakers are calling for a set of assessments examining the organization of the combatant commands with an eye toward finding ways to improve their effectiveness. In the fiscal year 2017 defense authorization bill, which President Obama signed into law Dec. 23, lawmakers call for the defense secretary to "conduct an assessment of the organization of the combatant commands and provide recommendations for changes to improve the effectiveness of such commands," according to the joint explanatory statement.
