Textron submits ARV prototype informed by Marine Corps force design

Textron Systems has designed, constructed and tested an Advanced Reconnaissance Vehicle prototype ahead of the competition for the program, the company announced Tuesday. David Philips, Textron's senior vice president for land systems, told reporters the company has built a prototype, named the Cottonmouth, and submitted a response to the program's request for prototype proposals ahead of the program's Monday deadline. The Navy and Marine Corps are in the early stages of procuring the Advanced Reconnaissance Vehicle, initially intended to replace the Light Armored Vehicle. But recent force design work has called into question the utility and scope of an LAV replacement, leading the service to re-evaluate the requirements for the ARV.
