MX-LnS,MX-LnS_1.5,and MX-Ln(N=Pb,Ge;X=Te,Se;Ln=Gd,Dy,Tb,Ho,Tm,Lu) polycrystalline ingots and powder compacts were investigated. Rare-earth doping was found to cause marked microstructural changes ,an increase in microhardness, and improvement of mechanical strength. The doping of germanium telluride induces the α-γ phase transition. Since the rare earth are closely similar in chemical nature and ionic radius, they have essentially identical effects on the properties of the alloys studied.
