When companies crowdsource users’ ideas, some ask their usersrnfor any ideas they may have while others present specific problemsrnthey need help in solving. This paper explores whether differentrnapproaches elicit different numbers of ideas shared by users. Twornexperiments in different organizations were conducted to determinernwhich types of simple verbal stimuli are most effective for improvingrnthe users’ ideation process. It was shown that simple but specificrnproblem statements presented by a company resulted in the highestrnnumber of relevant ideas being given by its users. Companies whornlook for inspiration and insight into users’ needs are advised to makernspecific ideation challenges so that users produce and share a largerrnnumber of ideas.
