Findings of Sphaerium mamillanum (Westerlund, 1871)(Mollusca, Bivalvia, Sphaeriidae) in Waterbodies of the Urals and Western Siberian Plain

The presence of the bivalve mollusk Sphaerium mamillanum (Westerlund, 1871) has been reported only in fresh waterbodies in Europe [3-6]. The identification of our own material collected over many years and materials stored in the Museum of the Aquatic Mollusks of Siberia, Omsk State Pedagogical University, as well as collections we received for identification from members of the Zoological Museum, Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology, Ural Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, revealed bivalves different from any species known from the studied region and conforming to Westerlund's |7, 8| description of S. mamillanum. The species proved to be common in waterbodies of the Middle and Southern Urals and occurring in waterbodies of the southern West Siberian Plain, including the Novosibirsk Reservoir (Fig. 1).
