If businesses learned one thing during the last recession, it was this: don't over-build data centers. In the late 1990s, countless new data centers were constructed to support network and Internet traffic that, it seemed, would grow without end. Some cities even experienced a land rush for places where the typically boxy, ugly buildings could be sited. Then the economy tanked, leaving some new centers half-empty and others stuck in the planning stage.
