IBM Puts Big Data In The Cloud

T BM has taken big data pro-lcessing to the cloud. Its Hadoop-based InfoSphere Biglnsights, a distributed data processing and analysis platform, is now available as an online service. The move comes just weeks after rivals Oracle and Microsoft took their first steps toward embracing Apache Hadoop. Oracle plans to introduce a Hadoop distribution and recently confirmed that an Oracle Big Data Appliance that will run the software will be available in the first quarter. Microsoft, too, will release a Hadoop software distribution, expected some time next year. Microsoft also plans to launch a beta Hadoop service on its SQL Azure cloud computing platform before the end of the year.
