Do we need yet another search engine? This is the question surrounding A9, the new search engine from Amazon (http://www.A9.com). I guess we might... if it's not just another search engine. We now have an abundance of good search engines, with more coming soon. Any new search engine better be something special, or we simply can't be bothered. A9's Web search technology is borrowed. It searches important reference and research databases, but none of them is new, and each can be more effectively searched at its home site. A9 has some helpful search management features, but these aren't new either; instead they're modest adaptations of Web browser features that you already use regularly.
