IFLA: Spotlight on the Opening

Hosted by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), the 72nd World Library and Information Congress took place in Seoul, South Korea, in mid-August. The impressive opening ceremonies at this major league information event led IFLA National Organizing Committee president Ki-Nam Shin to refer to the conference as "the cultural Olympics." The huge screen at the back of the stage, which was used to display words and photos juxtaposed with drummers, singers, a Korean harpist, and an orchestra on stage, certainly proved him right.
