Is Search Disappearing?

Don't worry; search won't disappear any time soon. Google and its competitors are here to stay, and there will always be a need for standalone Web search engines. But according to the buzz at the 11th Search Engine Meeting, which was held April 24-25 in Boston, the search industry is changing. These changes are expected not only to continue in the next few years, but to accelerate. Today's search bears little resemblance to the early commercial systems of the 1970s. Search is now being integrated seamlessly into myriad applications and enhanced by value-added features. So in that sense, searching is disappearing.
