IEEE/HP Telecenter Opens in Nigeria

In 2003, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) sent Harry Goldstein, then an IEEE Spectrum senior associate editor, to Nigeria to research an article on an undersea fiber optic cable. When he arrived, Goldstein experienced firsthand the poor facilities available to Nigeria's electrical engineers and students. So he developed an idea to equip and fund a computer center for the students.
