Data Records Management: A View of the Future

Government agencies are facing new challenges if they plan on conforming to a recent presidential mandate calling for the modernization of government records management. That mandate, which President Barack Obama released in November 2011, was part of a records management memorandum titled Managing Government Records.The memorandum called for the modernization of government records management in an effort to decrease cost, increase efficiency, and ensure transparency. However, the memorandum language is extremely broad. The National Archives and Records Administration released its directive and created a schedule to eliminate paper and get government agencies on the digital bandwagon.
