The NSA and an Imperfect World

As summer ended, there hadn't been many days without something in the news about the continuing drama associated with the National Security Agency's (NSA) surveillance programs. After news of the programs was first leaked to various news outlets in early June, it was relatively quiet. There was only a press release from Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) pledging more NSA oversight. But it has been hard to escape the virtually nonstop reporting, commentary, and hand-wringing that has gone on since the story first broke.
