Green ICT practices in event management: case study approach to examine motivation, management and fiscal return on investment

Jolly and Dimanche (2009) argued that the tourism industry has been quick to adopt technological innovations in service to its customers. This paper shows that the levels of adoption vary within the festival industry although customer service seems to be a by-product of technology rather than a motivating factor in adoption. Instead, the expansion of business and improved productivity and efficiency are primary motivating factors. Porter (2001) considered ICT as a vehicle that transformed businesses through business practices, strategies, and industry structures. As Festival A has started experimenting with technologies, and the benefits have been realized, creative problem solving through technology has increased. Additionally, through the re-engineering of entire processes, Festival A has developed new marketing avenues for their products as well as collected customer feedback to enhance services (Buhalis and Law 2008). Additionally, both festivals emphasised the increase in service to vendors rather than customers.
