Over the last few decades, computers have developed from specialized, somewhat obscure tools used by a select group of professionals, workers, and hobbyists to everyday household items. Topics such as technological surveillance, cybersex, online harassment, pornography on the Internet, and so forth have found their way into popular discourse. And yet, argues Alison Adam in her latest book Gender, Ethics and Information Technology, despite this ubiquity of objects and ideas, the gender dimension of ethical topics related to information technology is seldom examined or given any theoretical depth. Indeed, Adam identifies a profound absence of established literature in the field of feminist computer ethics.
