摘要

The concept of education throughout the world has changed over the years. While the founders of the U.S. Constitution inserted a clause about education for the masses, it was not until approximately 150 years later that the call for universal education was voiced. Technological innovations quickly began to permeate the work environment, and the need for modifications to earlier educational designs became much more apparent. In the 1970s, as globalization led to a shift toward the post-Fordist model (Webster, 2006), the hierarchical structure that was effective in stable environments became unable to handle the complex interactions within the global economy. As a result, the layers of rigidity were reduced and the hierarchy evolved into a "networked society" (Castells, 1996). With changes to the scale of the system and the organization come transformations to education that enable it to have a greater and more powerful impact on human beings.
