More than three decades after the launch of a discussion on translation itself-in James Holmes' 1972 pronouncement "Let the meta-discussion begin"-The Metalanguage of Translation examines a variety of practices of translation challenged by the complexity of modern society; globalization, diversity, interculturality, relevance, and dissemination emerge as main strains of a quest to make translation studies as sophisticated as other scholarly disciplines. As Josep Marco argues in his contribution to the volume, a "higher degree of conceptual and terminological coherence would result in more rational internal structure and in higher appreciation on the part of other scholarly communities" (76).
