Understanding RGB Color Spaces for Monitors, Projectors, and Televisions

STANDARDIZED color spaces, which can be used to describe a system's color characteristics (including its gamut) are helpful metrics for any number of reasons. We can use them to compare and evaluate new systems-for example, a claim that the LG Signature OLED 77-inch TV meets 98.5 percent of DCI-P3. Research and development teams may use color spaces when designing devices, consumers may use them to make purchasing decisions, and in broadcast TV we may use them when gamut mapping from ultra-high-definition TV (UHDTV) to high-definition (HDTV). A technical approach to color, therefore, allows us cut through marketing claims, strengthen customer satisfaction, and promote confidence in the sector's technology and sales growth.
