In A Networked Self: Identity, Community and Culture on Social Network Sites, Zizi Papacharissi capitalizes on the continually changing landscape of our digital culture. As the Internet changes our conceptualization of society, Papacharissi brings together several relevant and well-timed pieces to address how this changing landscape should be reflected in scholarly research. Papacharissi's book attempts to unpack the complexity of social networking sites in specific reference to three components: identity, community, and culture. This edited volume brings a number of noted scholars, mostly centred in communications research, to address varying topics surrounding social networking. The book is of note as it comes at a time where traditional conceptualizations of society, in reference to communications and media, are being directly challenged by the advent of the mediated environments brought on by social networking. In taking the entire work into consideration, the principal contribution of the book is its ability to highlight a number of new substantive research agendas that are worth examining.
