This book is an excellent reminder that the need for 'grand theory' has not gone away as some would wish. It is also a wake-up call to those who continue to portray globalisation as some kind of natural, unstoppable event, an economic tsunami, beyond the control of mortals. The book provides a compelling analysis that globalisation is what the ruling classes make it, although with the proviso that the ruling classes are not always particularly competent.
