NIOSH marks a half century of safety efforts

This year marks 50 years since the establishment of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to help promote safe workplace practices in the United States. Congress passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 that created NIOSH "to assure so far as possible every working man and woman in the nation safe and healthful working conditions." The institute began operations on April 28,1971.
