Two years ago Action Automation and Controls, Inc., of North Attleboro, Mass., was facing a perplexing problem. In the midst of a 33 percent sales growth spurt, phone calls from customers were at an all-time high, and , the company's six-person inside sales team was struggling to handle them all. It didn't take long for Action Automation's management team to start getting phone calls from its outside sales force, asking why their accounts were having such a hard time reaching inside sales team members via telephone.
