Glass-Crystalline Binder for Bonding Alundum Abrasive Grains

The suitability of a glass-crystalline binder from the R_2O-RO-Al_2O_3-B-2O_3-SiO_2 system for the bonding of alundum abrasive grains into the tools has been studied. The crystallizability of the binders and the influence of changes in tool heat treatment have been determined. The use of the phase composition of the binder to control selected physico-mechanical properties of the samples is discussed.
