Natural vegetable dyes are finding increased uses in the recent days, thanks to increasing eco-awareness. The authors present here the outcome of their study on standardizing the process of silk dyeing using tamarind leaves that contain tannin. After a lapse of more than half a century, natural vegetable dyes have gained considerable importance all over the world due to their eco-friendly nature. The bark and leaves of tamarind (Tamarindus indica) contain tannin, and can serve as a potential source for natural dyes. The bark is reported to contain up to 70% tannin, being used in the tanning industry.
